This is a superb quality pair of Regency watercolour embroidered silk paintings in gilt frames, circa 1820. These types of pictures are also known as “Macclesfield silks” as they originate from the Macclesfield area in Cheshire, England. They are constructed of silk embroidery and watercolours. One picture depicts a country cottage scene with the roof being thatched and a yard with hens and a goat. In the background, you can see the local village. The other picture depicts a country mill near a stream with ducks paddling. Again, you can see a village in the background. The pictures are mounted in a glass front gilt frame. Both pictures show superb craftsmanship and quality. They are both completely original and in excellent condition.
