This is a fine quality antique Victorian English carved figured walnut Canterbury, circa 1860, in good original condition. The Canterbury boasts four stunning solid walnut pierced fretwork scroll shaped panels, supported by elegant turned bobbin horizontal spindles, providing three partitions, which are ideal for storing magazine, newspapers or music sheets. Below, sits a figured walnut frieze drawer, incorporating the original turned knobs and satinwood stringing. The drawer linings and bottom are constructed of solid mahogany with a hand-dovetailed construction. The drawer also retains the original working lock (with a working key) and escutcheon. The Canterbury stands on its four original baluster turned legs, which incorporate the original brass sockets and original ceramic mug castors.
The Canterbury features a gorgeous mellow burr walnut brown colour. As it boasts the original polish,it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.

Condition Report:
This item is in good original condition. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges but nothing significant considering the age of the item. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this colour and patination cannot be re-created through re-polishing. The pierced fretwork panels are complete, with no missing sections and are solid in joint. The drawer is hand dovetailed and mahogany lined (sign of quality) and boasts its original turned knobs. The drawer closes flush to the frame. The drawer knobs and brass castors sockets and ceramic castors are also all original. This item is solid in joint and ready to use.
