This is a superb quality set of eight Edwardian carved mahogany dining chairs in the style of the Chippendale period having freshly upholstered seats, circa 1900. The set consists of six side chairs and two armchairs. The chairs features shaped serpentine head rails with scroll ears and a finely executed carved floral pierced central splat flanked by vertical beading. The chairs have drop in seats, which have been newly upholstered in top quality hard wearing taupe shade wool & cotton upholstery. Elegantly shaped cabriole legs that feature scroll carvings to the frieze of the chair frame and terminate in pronounced ball and claw feet support the chairs. The backs of the chairs are chamfered this is a sign of top quality. The two arms chairs feature a similar design and have elegantly shaped splayed arms with carved acanthus leaf scroll ends. This is a true set of chairs (they have not been matched together) and they are extremely comfortable. The chairs are heavy in weight this is a further sign of quality. Warings of Liverpool possibly made these chairs as they are numbered and the very high quality of these chairs were usually associated with this cabinetmaker. In 1903 Waring merged with Gillows, and the famous brand Waring & Gillow was born. Unfortunately a very large portion of Waring & Gillows furniture was not stamped.
The frames of the chairs feature a rich dark mahogany colour. As they boast the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination this can only be achieved through age and the years of care and cleaning they have received.
This item would look superb in a variety of rooms from the living room, dining rom, study, and library or office boardroom. This item would certainly grace any home and are a great investment as they are an extremely functional. So don’t miss out your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.
