Description:
Here is a good quality antique English Edwardian oak and leather revolving office armchair, circa 1910, in good condition. The armchair features a padded shaped and curved bar back, connected to moulded scroll arms, on rectangular vertical supports. The chair boasts a refined splayed vertical spindle back, which incorporates fine ring turnings at top and bottom of the spindles within a beaded frame. The padded back and sprung seat have been newly upholstered in top quality full grain burgundy red leather, which has been finished with hand-tacked brass studs to the perimeter. The underside of the seat has been re-webbed in the traditional manner. The chair sits on four splayed oak legs that terminate on brass castors. The chair rotates 360 degrees; the seat height can be adjusted by turning a ribbed metal screw on the underside of the chair. The chair mechanism is in good working order. The chair also features a reclining action; the reclining tension can also be adjusted. The armchair is extremely comfortable to sit on as it features a lovely padded seat.
This item features a rich medium brown oak colour. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
This item would look superb in a variety of rooms in the home, especially the office or study as it is so comfortable. This item would certainly grace any home. So don’t miss out your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.
Condition Report:
The chair and mechanism is in good working condition. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges of the chair but nothing significant considering the age of the item. The chair seat has been newly upholstered in top quality full grain burgundy red leather. Therefore, the leather is in excellent condition, with no signs of wear and tear, damage or holes etc. The chair frame incorporates the traditional brass studwork tacks to the seat perimeter and traditional hessian material to the underside. The reclining and adjustable height mechanism is in good working order. There is some play to the mechanism but this is perfectly acceptable, and in line with the age of the chair. The chair features a medium brown oak colour, having been cleaned and polished in our workshops. The chairs’ brass castors are also in good condition. This item is solid in joint and ready to use.
