Here is a superb quality antique English George III mahogany inlaid chest of drawers, circa 1780, with lovely colour in completely original condition. Constructed with a rare single plank mahogany top with flame mahogany cross banding and a thumb-moulded edge, the frame of the chest is inlaid with satinwood and ebony stringing, with elegant inlaid quarter columns to the front corners, and solid mahogany sides. Comprising of a two-over-three graduated drawer design, the drawer fronts incorporate quality mahogany cross banding, with satinwood and ebony string inlay, and boast the original brass swan neck handles, back plates and key escutcheons. The drawers also retain their original working lever locks (with working key). The chest is constructed of solid mahogany with oak hand-dovetailed drawer linings; it also retains its original pine backboards. The drawers are in good working order, they are clean inside and close flush to the frame. The chest stands on its original moulded ogee bracket feet, it is of extremely good quality and is made from the best materials, thus it is very heavy to lift!
The chest features a rich deep mahogany colour, with a wonderful grain configuration to the front and sides. As its boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
