Description:
This is a fine quality pair of Victorian shepherd’s crook mahogany armchairs, circa 1880, in the style of the Queen Anne period, with newly upholstered seats, in very good condition. The armchairs are constructed of top quality solid mahogany and feature a shepherd’s crook shaped top rail, with a central scroll shaped pediment. Below is a shaped and pierced central splat, flanked by vertical rails. The splayed arms boast a shepherd’s crook and are secured by shaped vertical supports. Incorporating a drop-in seat design, the seat frames are finely moulded. The seats have been newly upholstered in top quality hardwearing silk damask upholstery, with traditional hessian material to the underside. Therefore the seats are in excellent and clean condition, with no marks. The seats are firm but comfortable; you do not sink into the seat.
Elegantly shaped cabriole legs, with subtle scroll carvings to the knees, terminate on pad feet at the front; with splayed blocks to the rear. Turned stretchers for added strength unite the legs. The chairs are heavy in weight and are structurally sound; this is a further sign of quality. Please note, this is a true pair of armchairs; they have not been matched together from two individual armchairs.
The armchairs boast a rich dark brown mahogany colour. As they boast the original polish, they have a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning they have received.
These armchairs would look superb in a variety of rooms from the bedroom, hallway, office or library. They would certainly grace any home and are a great investment as they are extremely functional. So don’t miss out on your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.
